In the first quarter of 2017, the disposable incomes of the Moldovan population averaged 2134.5 lei per month per person, which is 5.3% more than in the same period in 2016
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, in real terms (adjusted to inflation), household incomes increased by 0.9%. Salary remained the most important source of income, accounting for 40.2% of the total income of the population. At the same time, its contribution to the revenue structure decreased by 2.2 percentage points.
Compared with the first quarter of 2016, social benefits were the second most important source of income for the population during this period, accounting for 23.7% of the total income of citizens, and their share increased by 4.2 percentage points. Remittances from abroad remained an important source of income for the population - their share was 17.6%, having decreased by 0.8 percentage points. Incomes from individual activities accounted for 14% of the total disposable income, including, the income from individual agricultural activities accounted for 8.6% of total disposable income, and the income from individual non-agricultural activities - 5.4%.
The incomes of the population in cities were on average 894.9 lei (1.5 times) more than in rural areas. In cities, the main source of income for urban residents is the salary, which provides 50.9% of the income, as well as social payments - 22.6%. In rural areas, the most important source of income was also the salary, which accounted for 27.6%, but its share in the income structure of the population is 1.8 times lower than in the cities. The share of the income from agricultural activities accounted for 17.1% of the disposable incomes of the rural population of Moldova. The rural population, in comparison with the urban population, is more dependent on remittances from abroad, whose share in total income was 24.2% (compared to 12% for the urban population). In addition, in the income of the rural population the share of social payments is higher by 3.6 percentage points in comparison with the urban one.
The income structure of the population is dominated by income in money terms - 90.5%, and incomes in physical terms make up 9.5%. Revenues in monetary terms make up 96.5% of the incomes of the urban population, and 83.5% - of the rural population.
