Inflation in Moldova was 0.9% in May, 2017 and 5.3% since the beginning of the year

The annual inflation (within May 2016-May 2017) was 7.4%. 

Last May saw the 0.2% inflation; the inflation in January-May 2016 amounted to 0.3%, while the May 2015-2016 inflation was 7.9%. 

In May 2017 the average consumer prices increased 0.9% month-on-month. In particular, the prices for foods increased 2%, the prices for non-foods decreased 0.1%, the tariffs on services to the population increasing 0.6%, NBS says. In May 2017, the price for potatoes and fresh fruit went 56.7% and 10.5% up respectively. The price for stone fruits went up 19.1%, the price for citrus ones increased 16.3%, the price for seed fruits grew 11.8% and the price for berries rose 10.9%. 

The price for vegetables grew 5.2% upon average, including by 49.4% for onions, 24.6% for carrots and 12.5% for cabbages. 

The price for mineral water and half-cooked meat increased 2.4% and 2.1% respectively. The price for pork rose 1.3% and the price for boiled sausages grew 1.1%. At the same time, it reduced for cucumbers by 21.2%; for eggs by 16.8%; for marrows by 13.5%, for bell carrots by 7.9%, for mushrooms by 3.4%, for garlic by 2.4%, for cereals and vegetable oil by 1.6%, for butter by 1%, for milk and dairy 0.7%. 

The price for cottage cheese reduced 1.6%, the mutton and rabbit flesh went down by 0.6%. As for non-foods, the prices grew most for summer footwear for women, men and children, by 5.1%, 4.4% and 2.1% respectively, for dresses by 1.7%, for children’s garments by 0.7% and for cigarettes, by 1.2%. The fuel reduced 1.7% in price. In particular, combustibles cheapened 2.3%, firewood cheapening 1.2%. The price for motorbikes declined 1.8%. The prices for hosiery, jackets, sweaters, winter shoes, detergents, washing machines, cockers, medicines, TV sets, kitchen tables reduced by 0.5%. 

As for services, the prices grew by 5.2% for entertainments, 3.1% for railway transportation, 3% for kindergartens and 1.2% for utility services. In particular, 1 sq m of hot water in Chisinau increased in price by 5.2%; the price for cold water grew 4.5%, the heating tariff in Chisinau rose 4.4%. Outbound tourism services became 1.8% expensive, rent increased 1.2%, hotel accommodation increased 0.4% in price and air transportation services grew 0.2%.
